Abraham Charles "Abe" Vigoda known for a number of roles, especially in The Godfather and Barney Miller, a sitcom of 1970s passed away on 26 January 2016 in New Jersey, US. He was 94. A successful actor in his long acting career gave number of memorable performances and was thrice nominated for Emmy Award. His death was confirmed by his daughter Carol Vigoda Fuchs.
Abe Vigoda, son of Samuel and Lena Vigoda, was born on February 24, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York. He made acting appearances in number of movies and sitcoms. He entered entertainment industry in 1960s and starred in Mad Animal, The Man in the Glass Booth (1968), Inquest (1970), and Tough to Get Help (1972). His most famous role was as hulking mob boss Sal Tessio in Francis Ford Coppola’s first two Godfather films. Other famous roles include that of detective Sergeant Phil Fish in the Barney Miller police comedy series. This role had brought him greatest recognition. He also appeared in ABC TV soap Dark Shadows as Ezra Braithwaite and Otis Greene.
A New York native he played Grandpa in Look Who’s Talking (1989). He was also popular as an actor in films including Cannonball Run II, Joe Versus the Volcano and North. A brilliant actor he was fun loving and known all about the expectations of the larger audiences and so never failed to impress them. He was duly appreciated for his role in films like The Don Is Dead (1973), Prancer (1989), Joe Versus the Volcano (1990), Sugar Hill (1993), Jury Duty (1995), Good Burger (1997), Chump Change (2000) and Crime Spree (2003). Married to Beatrice Schy he is survived by his daughter, Carol, three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
