Anita Shreve was an American writer, known for her novels such as The Pilot's Wife, Testimony and The Weight of Water.A creative thinker she was an avid reader and writer. Her novel The Pilot's Wife sold millions of copies, especially after Oprah Winfrey chose it for her book club in 1999. She was recipient of L.L. Winship/PEN New England Award in 1998 for her work "The Weight of Water". Suffering from cancer Anita died at her home in New Hampshire. She was 71.
Born on October 7, 1946, in Dedham, Massachusetts, Anita graduated from Tufts University. One of her first published stories, Past the Island, Drifting, (published in 1975) was awarded an O. Henry Prize in 1976. Eden Close published in 1989 was widely appreciated by readers. In times to come, she wrote about 19 novels in all, including The Pilot's Wife, Testimony and The Weight of Water. Movies were also made on her novels.
