The demise of busy character actor Richard Libertini on January 7, 2016, sent a shock wave among his fans and colleagues. Best known for playing the role of insane Central American general Garcia in the 1979 madcap comedy The In-Laws, he was suffereing from cancer.
Born on 21st May 1933 in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, Libertini graduated from Emerson College in Boston. After working in New York City and in Chicago, he finally moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career during the 1960s. He appeared on the big screen for the first time with “The Night They Raided Minsky's”, and went on to feature in “Don't Drink the Water” and “Catch-22”. Libertini is most remembered for his roles in Fletch (1985), The In-Laws (1979), and Sharky's Machine (1981). His roles in Days of Heaven (1978), Best Friends (1982), Unfaithfully Yours (1984), All of Me (1984), Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) helped in establishing him as a versatile actor in the film industry. Libertini made his presence felt on television screen with sitcom “The Fanelli Boys”and television drama “Supernatural”. He also appeared in TV show Supernatural.
